Achieving a Healthy Weight: Feeding your Child

Your Toddler and Preschooler ( 1 to 5 years of age)

Children have little tummies! Do not compare with how much you would eat, or pressure your child to eat more. If you offer healthy nutritious foods at regular meal times, your child can determine what and how much to eat.

Because they need to eat little at a time, you should offer them wholesome meals and planned snacks.

Stay away from foods like cookies, donuts, candy, chips, sodas, and "fake" juices. They are loaded with empty calories and are very poor in the nutrients (protein, vitamins, minerals, complex carbohydrates and fiber) that your child needs to grow well.

FOLLOW the Food Guide Pyramid (USDA), it shows how to balance your child's diet.

Offer small amounts of food. Let your child ask for more.

Never deny seconds if your child asks for more fruits and veggies.
